Auburn coach Gus Malzahn didn’t directly say that running back Kerryon Johnson would be ready to return to game action vs. Arkansas this Saturday during this afternoon’s SEC teleconference, but he did hint that the team’s leading rusher is well on his way back to full health.

“He practiced the whole time,” Malzahn said. “He was better than he was on Sunday. We’ll just have to keep checking to see his progress up until Saturday.”

Johnson, who left with an ankle injury during the first quarter of last week’s 38-14 win against Mississippi State, enters Week 8 with 538 yards (5.1 ypc) and six touchdowns. He and co-sophomore teammate Kamryn Pettway (505 yards) rank No. 8 and 9 in the SEC, respectively.

Auburn (4-2, 2-1) will host Arkansas (5-2, 1-2) this weekend. The Razorbacks currently own the conference’s 9th-best run defense, having surrendered 175.86 yards per game and a league-worst 17 touchdowns on the ground so far this season.
