Kevin Jennings had an absolutely dismal first half for SMU in its College Football Playoff first-round game at Penn State.

The Mustangs quarterback had thrown just 8 interceptions all season coming into Saturday, 5 of those coming in 2 games. In the first half against the Nittany Lions, not only did he throw 3 picks, but two of them were returned for touchdowns.

The first one came on the second play of the Mustangs’ second drive, as Penn State’s Dominic DeLuca returned a Jennings pass 23 yards to open the scoring with 6 minutes left in the 1st quarter. Two drives later, it happened again: with the Mustangs at the Nittany Lions’ 47, Jennings’ throw was snagged by Tony Rojat, who took it 59 yards the other way to stretch the Penn State lead.

Two drives after that, the Mustangs ended up with outstanding field position as they stopped the Nittany Lions on 4th-and-1 from the Penn State 19. But Jennings was picked again on 2nd and goal from the 7 as DeLuca got his hands on his second INT of the day. He came into the afternoon with just 4 in his entire career.

It was 28-0 at halftime, and by all accounts, this one appears to be over unless the Mustangs can make major adjustments. Meanwhile, here’s the reaction from social media to Jennings’ ugly first half:
