Kevin Smith, the running backs coach at Ole Miss, appears to be headed to a job closer to his hometown.

Smith shared a farewell message on social media as reports circulated that he would take the same job at Miami on new coach Mario Cristobal’s staff.

“It is with the utmost appreciation for the Ole Miss Players, Coach LK & Staff, Keith Carter, and the Oxford community that I say thank you for all you have been to me and my family. We’re grateful for the opportunities, support, memories made and moments captured,” he wrote.

Multiple sources told InsideTheU that Smith would be taking the same position at Miami. Smith is a Miami Southridge alumnus and two-time All-Dade selection who went on to become a first-team All-American while he broke 17 records at UCF.

Smith began his coaching career in 2017 at FAU under Lane Kiffin and in his first year had the No. 6 rushing attack in the country led by Devin Singletary, who ran for 1918 yards and 32 touchdowns. That was up from No. 45 the year before.
