Another year, same story for Texas A&M and its head coach, Kevin Sumlin.
A hot start is followed by a terrific collapse. It’s happened to Sumlin-coached squads since 2013.
This year, the Aggies started 7-0 — registering as the No. 4 team in the country in the opening CFB Playoff Rankings. There was a palpable energy surrounding the program. Many thought A&M would be the stiffest competition for Alabama in the SEC West.
However, history has a tendency to repeat itself. Since 2013, Texas A&M is 3-8 in the month of November against conference opponents.
Collectively, Sumlin’s program has a 15-16 overall record in SEC play dating back to ’13. This ranks A&M only above Arkansas and Mississippi State within the West division in terms of wins.
Lastly, the Aggies have a 9-14 division record since 2013. It’s the second-worst mark in the SEC West — only ahead of Arkansas. As a result, ESPN has listed Sumlin as No. 6 on its latest ‘hot seat’ big board.

“Upsets are going to happen in college football, but the more damaging part for Sumlin is that this is the third straight year Texas A&M has collapsed down the stretch. The Aggies still have to face LSU on Thanksgiving Day. A loss there would mean four losses in the last six games. That’s after losing five of the last eight in both 2015 and 2014.”
