So much for Texas A&M’s stay in the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings.

The No. 4 Aggies watched their national title hopes come crashing down in a stunning 35-28 loss at Mississippi State, which had won just one SEC game this season entering Saturday. Senior quarterback Trevor Knight left the game with a shoulder injury after a 5-of-14 start passing.

Backup Jake Hubenak (11-of-17 for 222 yards and two touchdowns) performed admirably in his place, but Texas A&M (7-2, 4-2) gave up 574 yards to the Bulldogs (4-5, 2-3).
