For Aggies fans, it’s hard to imagine star pass-rusher Myles Garrett in any colors other than maroon and white. Speaking to the media ahead of the Texas Bowl, likely Garrett’s last college football game, Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin revealed he had to work hard to change the Arlington, Texas standout’s mind on his college destination.
Kevin Sumlin said Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett wanted to go to another school early in recruitment, but worked hard to flip him.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly which team Garrett was favoring before the Aggies. As a top recruit in 2014, Garrett had interest from a number of Power 5 heavyweights. From the SEC West, Alabama, Arkansas and LSU all recruited the five-star weak-side defensive end. In-state rivals Texas and TCU also sought his services. On 247Sports’ Crystal Ball, all 27 recruiting experts’ predictions had Garrett signing with the Aggies. The site ranked him the No. 1 overall recruit of the class.
The decision to go to Texas A&M worked out well for the James Martin product. In three seasons with the Aggies, Garrett has recorded 140 total tackles, including 47 for loss and 31 sacks. He has not yet declared for the NFL Draft, but is expected to be an early first-round pick.
