Through four games this season, Texas A&M QB Trevor Knight has thrown for 1,055 yards and seven touchdowns while guiding the Aggies to a 4-0 record and the No. 9 ranking in the country.
During Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin’s Week 5 SEC Media Presser, he said getting Knight, a graduate transfer from Oklahoma, to come to College Station this winter was helpful for getting him ready to lead the Aggies:
“We’ve had a chance to be with him since January,” he said. “To give him and our team a better opportunity to work through a new offensive philosophy was key. Our ability to meet with players in the summer was big, but particularly with him. Naming him the starter in the spring gave him all summer to learn to lead this team.”
With a talented receiving corps that includes Christian Kirk, Josh Reynolds, Ricky Seals-Jones and RB Trayveon Williams coming out of the backfield, Sumlin said Knight has done a good job keeping everyone happy:
“They’ve shown what they can do,” Sumlin said. “They seem pretty happy to me. They understand where we are, they came here for a reason. They understand there’s going to be guys that bring different set of skills and they understand they won’t be asked to do it all because then they will get double teamed. We can’t play these guys all game long with the tempo we play at. You can’t do it for 80 plays. They get it.”
Check out Knight and the Aggies’ offense on Saturday afternoon when they travel to play South Carolina. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Central time and can be seen on the SEC Network.
