The college football season is never really over: Important dates to know

The college football national championship game is over, but the season never really ceases.
There’s always something going on that will affect every SEC team’s upcoming season. Depending on who’s leaving, the 2016 NFL Draft could drastically change a team’s outlook for this fall, leaving the upcoming spring practices that get underway in March as a critical period for coaches.
Here’s a look at some of the important dates college football fans need to know between now and the start of the season on Sept. 3.
Last day to declare for underclassmen for the NFL Draft: Jan. 18.
The day the NFL releases the official draft list: Jan 22.
National Signing Day: Feb. 3
NFL Scouting Combine: Feb. 23-29 in Indianapolis.
Spring football: Dates will vary for each school, but spring practices begin in March and conclude with spring games mostly in April. Several schools have yet to announce their spring football dates.
NFL Draft: April 28-30, Chicago.
Fall practice: All SEC teams will open fall camp in early August.
Week 1 of the 2016 season: Sept. 3
