Key receiver will play for Gators after wearing walking boot earlier this week
Florida sophomore receiver/kick returner Brandon Powell was wearing a walking boot on Thursday, but that won’t prevent him from playing for the SEC title today.
Powell was announced as a starter for today’s SEC Championship Game against Alabama. The 5-foot-9, 184-pound speedster has 28 catches and is third on the Gators with 368 receiving yards and 3 TDs. He also has the longest play from scrimmage so far for Florida, a 77-yard TD reception from QB Will Grier back on Oct. 3.
Powell has been dealing with a nagging lower foot issue that had him questionable prior to last week’s 27-2 loss to Florida State, but he still managed to play and record 3 catches for 20 yards and one kick return for 22 yards.
