Florida star Keyontae Johnson — the SEC Preseason Player of the Year this season — suffered a terrifying medical incident early in Saturday’s game at Florida State.

Coming out of a timeout, Johnson collapsed on the court and had to be taken off on a stretcher after Florida players immediately called for medical experts. He was quickly taken to a hospital in Tallahassee, where the update on Saturday afternoon had him in critical, but stable, condition.

On Sunday morning, the Gators issued another update on Johnson, saying that his status hadn’t changed overnight. AD Scott Stricklin also issued a statement:

“We appreciate all the medical personnel who have helped Keyontae,” Stricklin’s statement said. “Keyontae received terrific care on site by the FSU staff and at Tallahassee Memorial, which has worked in consultation with UF Health. We’re glad his parents can be by his side, and they all feel the support of Gator Nation.”

Coach Mike White and the Gators’ head health expert are still with Johnson in Tallahassee.

Hopefully, his condition improves over the course of Sunday, but for now, he is still in critical, but stable, condition, according to the Gators. We’ll provide more updates on Johnson as new information becomes available.
