Kirby Smart addresses 27-game winning streak, speaks to being on cusp of SEC royalty
Kirby Smart is entering rare territory as he continues to win at Georgia.
On Saturday, Smart won his 27th game in a row. Georgia is now just one game away from tying the SEC record of 28-straight games, which was done twice by Alabama from 1978-1980 and 1991-1993.
After the win on Saturday, Smart was humble with his answer about what it means to be in such a historic position.
“Rare air,” Smart said in his postgame press conference. “Those guys are I grew up watching as a little kid growing up in Alabama with my dad being a high school coach. A lot of the credit goes to the people that come to this university and play, the players that made those sacrifices, the players who helped win those games… It’s just all these guys that made sacrifices to do this and make it special. I’ve had an incredible coaching staff. Great coaches make head coaches look smarter.”
Georgia will face Tennessee next week and is looking to tie the record. The Vols are coming off a blowout-loss to Missouri, but they are certainly hoping to spoil the Bulldogs record next week.
