Kirby Smart recently shared his thoughts on helmet radios potentially making their way into college football similar to their usage in the NFL.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Smart explained that the hypothetical has been addressed by the SEC annually for over a decade now.

Smart expressed that he doesn’t have a particular lean for the subject that’s been widely discussed.

“I’ve been a part of that conversation for probably 10 years or longer, as long as I know the NFL has been doing it for a while. We’ve talked about it as an SEC group, and we’ve also talked about it on the rules committee,” Smart said. “It’s something that comes up every year. I don’t have a hard stance.”

Smart added that helmet radios could be more useful for some programs as opposed to others based on the systems ran.

“I’m one that believes in technology and advancement, but also believe that the coach and staff and organization has a right to choose on what they want to do and there’s a lot of college football teams out there that use a different style of play than the NFL,” Smart said. “They may not even use the technology because it’s not efficient for them in their style of offense, but I think that’s to each his own. If you like it and you’re capable of doing it then so be it.”

Smart and No. 1 Georgia will take on rival Florida on Saturday in Jacksonville (3:30 p.m. EST/CBS).
