Kirby Smart met with reporters in Athens on Tuesday evening.
Smart covered multiple topics and made brief comments on the recent arrest of Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young. Young was arrested and booked by Athens-Clarke County Police early Tuesday morning. He’s been charged with assault and battery of an unborn child.
“I know you guys want to know about Colbie and want to ask about it, but it’s a pending legal matter and I don’t have any answers right now and have not even had a chance to talk to him yet,” Smart said. “So I can’t answer any question about it right now.”
Later on in his press conference, Smart was asked if Young would have a chance to practice (or even play) with the Bulldogs this week. Smart declined to make a definitive statement in that regard, but said Young is away from the team right now.
“It’s a pending legal matter,” Smart said. “He’s not with us right now. He’s not with us today, I haven’t had a chance to talk to him.”
Young transferred in from Miami this past offseason, so he’s in his first season at UGA. He has 11 catches for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season.
Georgia will face Mississippi State in Week 7.
