Georgia utilized a fast start to jump out on Kentucky in Lexington leading to the first score of the game in the de facto SEC East title game against the two 7-1 teams. The Bulldogs then weathered several promising Kentucky drives and only gave up three points to the Wildcats.
D’Andre Swift really started to heat up in the second quarter, scoring the only touchdown of the second quarter to push Georgia’s advantage to 14-3 in Lexington. The sophomore back finished the first half with seven carries for 57 yards and one score.
Georgia’s lead could have been more had Jake Fromm not lost a fumble to end the first half. In what will be no surprise to Kentucky fans, it was Josh Allen that forced Fromm to fumble, leading to the turnover just before halftime.
Heading into the locker room for halftime, Kirby Smart had this to say about his team’s first-half performance against top 10-ranked Kentucky.
“We’re playing well, we got a little momentum, we’ve got to keep it going.”
