On Wednesday, reports of bad news emerged out of Georgia practice. Multiple outlets reported that redshirt sophomore OL Isaiah Wilson suffered a lower leg injury. On Thursday, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart confirmed Wilson’s injury and discussed how it will be handled going forward.

“Isaiah got an ankle sprain,” Smart said on ‘Bulldog Live,’ per 247Sports. “Isaiah’s a tough guy. We think he’s going to be okay, but we’ll keep on driving, keep on moving. We’ve got a lot of guys who’ve played there and kind of dealt with the same kind of injury last year with Andrew (Thomas). It’s frustrating for him. It’s frustrating anytime but when you’re in the trenches, that’s what happens.”

A starter since the beginning of the 2018 campaign, Wilson has started the last 15 games for the Bulldogs. The 6-7, 335-pounder earned preseason All-SEC recognition from the media this offseason.

Sophomore Jamaree Slayer was listed as the backup right tackle to Wilson heading into the season opener at Vanderbilt. Another option for UGA would be to move Cade Mays into a starting tackle spot.

Smart and his staff have a couple of good opportunities to try out different offensive line configurations before the Notre Dame game in Week 4. Georgia hosts FCS Murray State for Saturday’s home opener. The Bulldogs take on Sun Belt program Arkansas State in Week 3.
