Kirby Smart picked up another crucial SEC East win Saturday night despite several analysts pegging Florida to pull off an upset.
Smart knows how much pressure comes with being the top dog in college football — his team has been that for the past 3 seasons — so he makes a point to not listen to any of the outside noise.
“I don’t even hear it. I literally don’t,” Smart said in his postgame press conference. “So I don’t address it. I think they may hear it, because they’re on their phones 24/7 and it bothers me that they may hear that, or they may feel anxiety or they may feel pressure from this win thing.”
Smart also knows that constantly hearing outside noise can put pressure on his team, so he is hoping his team can stay focused on what matters. On Saturday after the game, he made a Halloween-themed comparison for the mindset his team needs to have moving forward.
“At the end of the day, the quickest way to lose it is think about that,” Smart said. “So when you think about attacking somebody and coming after them every play with a mindset of Friday the 13th. They can’t kill Jason, he’s coming back man. You’ve gotta keep going that way and think that way aggressively so you’re not paranoid about that.”
