Kirby Smart explains what makes Georgia’s defense one of the best in the country

The Georgia Bulldogs have one of the top defenses in the country this season, and it’s a huge reason why they’re off to a 2-0 start.
The Dawgs are allowing only 8 points per game, good for fourth in the nation. They’re also allowing only 248 yards of offense per game, which is fourth in the nation, as well.
So, what makes the Bulldogs so good on that side of the ball? Coach Kirby Smart shared his thoughts on Wednesday after practice.
“I think discipline,” he said. “You have to have good discipline to play good defense—to be able to execute. At the end of the day, we haven’t played our best. We have to improve and this is our biggest test (against Tennessee). I don’t think we’ve played someone as good as these guys, especially with the upfront guys, an experienced quarterback and they really have experienced wideouts for the most part. Brandon Johnson has been there forever, [Josh] Palmer is a great wideout, Velus [Jones Jr.] has played all over the place so they have good, young, wideouts. It’ll be the biggest task for us. I think the thing that will allow us to play good on defense will be experience right now.”
Can the Dawgs continue to shut down opposing offenses against Tennessee on Saturday? If they can, an SEC East title could be in their future.
