Kirby Smart provides latest Bulldog injury update heading into start of Georgia camp
We’ve got a mix of good news, bad news from Athens as Georgia’s training camp is finally set to begin this week.
That’s the good news. The bad news, many Bulldogs are a bit banged up heading into camp but considering the start of the season is 40 days away, all of these players have plenty of time to ease back into shape before games are played.
Here is the latest rundown of all the injuries Georgia has entering camp as shared by Kirby Smart during his introductory press conference.
WR Dom Blaylock
“Dom is not completely cleared to practice or play. He is going to have a black (non-contact) shirt. He is working out, coming off his ACL (injury) that occurred in the SEC championship game so he’s not completely cleared yet but he has worked really hard. He’s doing some straight-line running and some workout stuff.”
DB DJ Daniels
“He missed some time with an ankle injury. He’s almost back but this small, summer access window we’ve had where we were able to have a little more time than we normally do, he wasn’t able to do much at that time. So, I wouldn’t say he’s behind because he’s a kid that played a lot of snaps last year. He’ll be back with us kinda full time starting tomorrow.”
QB JT Daniels
“He’s not cleared (medically) yet. JT Daniels is coming off an ACL surgery, as well. He’s been able to take some reps. He’s been able to throw the ball and do some things but he’s not completely cleared for the knee yet and he’ll still be in a brace for that.”
OT Broderick Jones
“Had an injury, a non-football injury, but he’s recovered from that. He’s back out taking snaps, taking reps and has been with us working.”
QB Jamie Newman
“Had a mid-foot sprain and was out for a little bit of our summer access period, some call it mini-camp, OTAs, whatever you want to reference that as, he missed probably half of that. Not able to work out, do some things, but he was mentally there and able to do a lot of things with the team and he’s back with the team, able to do everything.”
LB Monty Rice
“He’s been out with a foot injury but he’s taken a lot of reps and played a bunch.”
TE Darnell Washington
“Had a small scope in his knee but it was from an injury in high school that he is back out there and recovered from and practicing and doing everything.”
LB Rian Davis
“Had a small torn meniscus and he should be back soon but he’s not able to practice right now.”
CB Kelee Ringo
“He had an old injury from high school that we were trying to see if he could go with, the injury didn’t occur here with his shoulder, he has had a shoulder repair. He’s going to be out a while.”
WR Arian Smith
“Had a meniscus repair and should be back sometime during the season but not sure exactly what date yet.”
