The No. 2 team in the nation is up 17-0 entering halftime at home in Athens as Tennessee has put up a good fight on defense on Saturday. Despite the strong effort from the Volunteer defense, Georgia has put on the steam late in the second quarter putting up a touchdown just before the break on a one-yard D’Andre Swift goal line run.

Georgia’s first touchdown of the day came on a heady play from tight end Isaac Nauta, who picked up a Jake Fromm fumble and actually ran it in for a 31-yard touchdown. Kirby Smart made a gutsy call to go for it on fourth down at the 32-yard line right before halftime which resulted in a converted first down and eventually led to the final score of the half.

Here’s what Smart had to say heading into the half.

“I thought we got some momentum going there, had a couple plays, had it rolling, went a little tempo; Really haven’t stopped us, we stopped ourselves. We have to do a better job executing,” Smart said.

The Georgia coach on his defense’s performance. The Bulldogs have now recorded two first-half shutouts this season (Austin Peay was the other game).

“Well, we are controlling the run game,” he noted. “We’re not getting lined up right some, which is frustrating, but they are getting off the field on third down which has mattered a lot.”
