Kirby Smart offers injury updates for Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, Tate Ratledge and Rara Thomas
Like many teams late in the season, Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs are banged up a little bit.
Several players have suffered some minor injuries over the past few weeks, and Smart provided some updates on those players during his press conference Monday.
Ladd McConkey missed Saturday’s game against Tennessee after an injury in the Ole Miss game. Smart said that it’s an ankle injury, but isn’t too serious.
“He’s got a tweaked ankle that he tweaked in the game here at home,” Smart said. “He was able to go a little bit some at the end of the week, but didn’t practice much. It bothered him a little bit Saturday, but nothing really more severe than that. We’ve done an MRI since the game and doing even more testing. But, I feel good that he’s going to be able to return.”
Freshman receiver Rara Thomas suffered an injury against the Vols on Saturday, and Smart cleared up that injury.
“Rara has a foot sprain. We don’t know the severity of it,” Smart said. “It’s really probably better listed as a bone bruise on his foot. I think he’s gonna be OK, but we don’t know that. We’ll see here in the week.”
Offensive lineman Tate Ratledge was also shaken up on Saturday, but Smart said there is no structural damage.
“Tate’s good. He has a bone bruise,” Smart said. “He banged knees, like we thought. He was sore yesterday and he’s sore today, limpin around. But no structural damage.”
Brock Bowers made his return to action against Ole Miss, but appeared to be limping during the game on Saturday. Smart said he is just getting back into the swing of playing full games.
“Brock feels good. I think he’s a little sore,” Smart said. “What’s happening is, he’s on his ankle more during the game and obviously getting live tackled and the catches he got, there’s more soreness after the game than there is during the week, so the recovery takes a little longer than that process.”
