Kirby Smart recaps Georgia’s suffocating defensive performance in first half

Georgia’s defense allowed just 1 rushing yard to Clemson in the first half, and Georgia was up 7-0 in Charlotte at halftime.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart was asked about his team’s play by Holly Rowe of ESPN.
“We’ve got some good guys up front and they’re doing a good job,” Smart said. “They’re doing some misdirection things. They’re not really committing to the run either, so it’s both ways.”
An early injury caused Georgia to shuffle its offensive line, which took a toll on the running game. Georgia had 42 rushing yards of its own in the first half. Each team had 1 turnover, and Georgia’s was a Pick 6 for the only points of the game.
“We’ve hit some decent runs, we can’t get explosive in the run game,” Smart said. “We’ve got to do a better job there. We lost Tate (Ratledge) early. I don’t know how bad it is. Warren Ericson, who has not practiced that much, has had to go in at guard.”
