Kirby Smart reflects on recruiting Luther Burden, Dominic Lovett’s return to Missouri
Dominic Lovett will be taking on his former team this weekend for the first time since transferring.
The wide receiver spent his first 2 seasons playing for the Tigers before transferring to Georgia, and now he is gearing up to face off against his former team in a high-stakes game on Saturday.
Ahead of the game, Kirby Smart broke down what makes Lovett such a valuable asset to have.
“I think he’s fired up for every game. Dom’s a great kid,” Smart said in his press conference Monday. “What a quality young man he is, he works really hard. He’s busted his butt since he’s been here, been very humble and bought into what we’ve asked him to do in being selfless. And he’s tried to improve his game as a blocker, it’s one of the things he had to work on. But I’m not overly concerned about that. As much as it is a deal and story for you guys, it’s not for him. It’s next opponent.”
Georgia will also go up against one of the top wide receivers in the SEC on Saturday — one that Smart tried to get on his team.
Luther Burden III has been dominant in his sophomore season, racking up 905 yards and 6 touchdowns. Ahead of Smart’s meeting with Burden and Missouri, he praised Eli Drinwitz’s ability to recruit in the area.
“Luther’s a great player, everybody in the country wanted Luther, it wasn’t just us,” Smart said. “They’ve got a very fertile recruiting ground, they’ve got some really good players in their state. Eli does a really good job of taking that circle and say 5-hour radius…. Eli’s done a great job, but then you’ve got a great program to sell when you create environments like we played in last year at their place. When you play on national TV, and you play the style that they play and they play really well on the road against Kentucky. So he’s got a product to put out there and sell to kids to come play there.”
