Kirby Smart is one of the most famous figures in Georgia as a reigning back-to-back national championship coach.

However when he’s away from his job, he’s just like any dad. That means being aggressively supportive of his kids during their sporting activities. His kids are Weston and Julia, who are in 10th grade, and Andrew, who is in 6th grade.

Smart had a fun moment on the “College GameDay” podcast in which he offered a glimpse into his approach on the sidelines watching his children compete.

Smart joked that he’s unable to deactivate his Bulldog tenacity.

“Probably over the top. I’m that guy that every rec-league coach probably hates because I want my kids to do well and play hard,” Smart said. “I do think that I’m probably over the top with the discipline part.”

Ultimately though, Smart is appreciative of his kids’ coaches for helping to develop valuable life skills outside of sports.

“I tell the coaches all the time: ‘I’m not going to get on you about playing time or any of that. All I want you to do is make sure my child has discipline and represents our family the right way in how he plays,” Smart said. “Sometimes that’s a chore in itself with my kids.”
