After Georgia RB Nick Chubb sprained his ankle against Ole Miss, it’s unclear whether the talented back will be available for this week’s home game against Tennessee.
Chubb or not, first-year head coach Kirby Smart said during the Week 5 SEC Media Presser that the Bulldogs won’t be afraid to run the ball on Saturday:
“[W]e are going to try and be balanced; we have plenty of good backs,” he said. “None of them are as talented as Chubb but we have plenty of options.”
Though Chubb’s status is uncertain, Smart said he wants to play against Tennessee. Georgia fans will recall that’s the game Chubb injured his knee in last season.
Coming off a tough loss at Ole Miss, having Chubb at full speed would be a big benefit as the Bulldogs head into a game against Tennessee that could decide the SEC East title.
While the loss was hard to watch, Smart said the coaches and players would study it closely to avoid making the same mistakes against the Vols:
“We focus on it, otherwise we could get copycatted on,” he said. “Don’t sweep things under the rug here. There’s negatives but there were plenty of positives from that game. Many teaching moments in that game.”
Saturday’s game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. and can be seen on CBS.
