The Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers played another all-time classic in Knoxville on Saturday night.
Georgia won the game, 44-41, in overtime. It was a great game with six lead changes between the two teams. It came down to the fact that Tennessee missed a field goal at the last second that would have won the game in regulation.
The Volunteers got the ball first in OT and were held to a field goal to start overtime. Then, Georgia took possession and scored a touchdown to win the game. Kirby Smart said that Tennessee played its heart out and deserved to win, and then he also said that he’s glad the Bulldogs never gave up. They never gave up, and that was the difference.
“I’m really proud of this team,” Smart said on the broadcast after the game. “Tennessee deserved to win this game. We didn’t play our best game. I got a lot of respect for the way they played, but these kids I got, they never quit.”
Here’s a clip:
Georgia had 502 total yards, while Tennessee had 496. The Volunteers threw two interceptions compared to Georgia’s one interception, but they also fumbled once.
These two teams were incredibly evenly matched, and Georgia and Kirby Smart have a built-in culture of just focusing on the next play. Georgia is a powerhouse, and this is a massive win for them. It shows that they can compete with almost everyone this season.
