A major storyline surrounding Saturday’s SEC championship game between Georgia and LSU will involve the availability of running back D’Andre Swift. The junior left Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech with an apparent shoulder injury and did not return.

In his game week press conference on Tuesday, head coach Kirby Smart said that while Swift was practicing, he was still “banged up” but was expected to be in the lineup in Atlanta. According to Athens Banner-Herald beat writer Marc Weiszer, Smart said that Swift sustained the injury earlier in the contest than assumed.

Smart’s statements regarding the availability of Swift have been consistent with his comments after the game, but the team will need to have a contingency plan just in case. If Swift is limited on Saturday or cannot play, the Bulldogs may have to lean on backup running back Brian Herrien and redshirt freshman Zamir White.  Sophomore running back James Cook could also see some extend edaction if Swift is limited.

Georgia and LSU kick-off Saturday at 4 p.m ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
