Kirby Smart still looking for improvement, offers thoughts on South Carolina-Arkansas matchup
After its 49-3 romp over Oregon on Saturday, Georgia jumped Ohio State into the No. 2 spot in the AP poll, just below top-ranked Alabama.
In his weekly SEC coaches teleconference appearance Wednesday, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart, as coaches are known to do, suggested that there was still plenty of room for improvement.
“Why would I not want them to improve in everything?,” Smart asked. “You go with the assumption that you always need to improve. … If we’re good at something, I want to be better. If we’re not, we need to improve. … Making less mistakes is my goal.”
With a home game up next against Samford on Saturday, a matchup that isn’t expected to be close, SEC reporters also took time to ask Smart about an intriguing matchup Saturday between South Carolina and Arkansas.
The Gamecocks are coached by Shane Beamer and the Razorbacks by Sam Pittman, both of whom served stints as assistants at Georgia under Smart.
“Both are great people,” said Smart of Beamer and Pittman. “It was a joy having both those guys on our staff here. … Part of the foundation that was built here. Proud of what each one of them is doing. It should be a good matchup.”
Georgia’s home opener against Samford on Saturday is set to kick off at 4 p.m. (ET) and will be televised by the SEC Network.
