The first scrimmage of the fall is in the books for Georgia, 3 weeks before its highly-anticipated Top 5 showdown against Clemson at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte to open the season.
Following the scrimmage, head coach Kirby Smart met with the media to share his thoughts about what he saw. He also provided several injury updates to a trio of key players.
First, Smart updated the status of starting center Warren Ericson, who was reported to have suffered a hand injury on Monday. Smart confirmed the news for the first time on Saturday while stating that Ericson would be cleared next week. With Ericson out, both Jamaree Salyer and Sedrick Van Pran-Granger switched off at center during the scrimmage.
Also, according to Lance McCurley, a pair of wide receivers—Kearis Jackson and Jermaine Burton—are “down right now”. Jackson had a knee procedure over the offseason with Smart saying last week that the junior had been recovering while being “very involved in walk-throughs and practice” despite not being 100 percent. Burton continues to come back from a minor knee injury suffered over the summer.
