Georgia QB Stetson Bennett IV has enjoyed a steady performance since taking the reins from D’Wan Mathis in the 2nd quarter of the season-opening win against Arkansas.

Against the Razorbacks, the junior was 20-for-29 for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns. In Saturday’s win over Auburn, he finished with 240 yards and a touchdown on 17-of-28 passing.

Eventually, the comparisons between Bennett and his predecessor, Jake Fromm, will crop up, and two prominent national voices are starting to make them in earnest.

“I’m more excited about what I saw from Georgia in that game than anything I saw last year under…Fromm, just because the rhythm that they had offensively,” Kirk Herbstreit said on his weekly podcast co-hosted with David Pollack and Kevin Neghandi, according to 247Sports. “They just seemed like they were playing with more of an edge that we haven’t seen in a while.”

Pollack pointed to one drive in particular, Georgia’s 2nd drive of the night that saw them take a 7-0 lead.

“He spins out of it, hits Kearis Jackson in the flats, first down, move the sticks, they go down the field and get seven instead of possibly getting a three,” he said. “Again, something Jake Fromm couldn’t do, because Jake Fromm wasn’t a really, really good athlete.”

Bennett and the Bulldogs host Tennessee on Saturday.
