The Tennessee Volunteers are on an 8-game winning streak, but those wins have come against teams that aren’t exactly elite.
The Vols have a chance to prove they’re for real on Saturday afternoon, as they head to Athens to take on No. 3 Georgia.
What would an upset win mean to the Vols and coach Jeremy Pruitt? ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit broke it down on SportsCenter on Saturday morning:
“The last time Tennessee beat a top-10 team was in 2006,” he said. “Since then, they’ve lost 33 straight games to top-10 teams by an averaged margin of 25 points. So you’re asking me what would a top-3 win over Georgia mean to Tennessee? It would mean everything. Not only would it put them in the driver’s seat right there with the Gators in the SEC East for 2020, it would kind of announce to the rest of the SEC that Jeremy Pruitt has the Vols, not just on this little winning streak that their on … but you beat Georgia at Georgia in Athens? That would be monumental for the program.”
Can the Vols take the step from rising program to SEC East contender? Tune in to CBS at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time to find out who wins the top-12 showdown.
