The Alabama defense has taken some criticism from fans the past couple of years, and particularly in 2019 under DC Pete Golding.

However, the Tide now have star LB Dylan Moses back, so they’re looking good at the start of the 2020 season.

On SportsCenter on Saturday morning, analyst Kirk Herbstreit explained why he can’t wait to see the Alabama defense take on Texas A&M:

“To me, this is all about Alabama,” he said. “Alabama over the last 2 years has not been the Alabama defense we’ve been known to associate with Nick Saban. Sound, communicating, everybody on the same page. Now, statistically, they’ve been great, but if you really watch Alabama, they’ve not been an Alabama defense. They’ve had miscues, they’ve had busts in coverage, they’ve not been sound with their gap responsibilities.

“So now you get to 2020, even amidst COVID and not having spring ball, they in one week against Missouri, they looked like an Alabama defense. They’re getting tested much more today against Kellen Mond. You can say whatever you want about A&M and what they did against Vandy, but this is a different-looking A&M team. … I can’t wait to watch the Alabama defense.”

A&M’s offense only scored 17 points against Vanderbilt last week. Will the Crimson Tide be able to shut down Kellen Mond and company even more? Tune in to CBS at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time to find out!
