Kirk Herbstreit always lists the most impressive coaches, teams, and players from each week of college football.
After Week 5, the ESPN analyst has listed the 7 coaches who impressed him the most this weekend.
Here are my top performing coaches of WEEK 5:
1-Kalen DeBoer @AlabamaFTBL
2-Barry Odom @unlvfootball
3-Mark Stoops @UKFootball
4-Deion Sanders @CUBuffsFootball
5-Curt Cignetti @IndianaFootball
6-Joey McGuire @TexasTechFB
7-Brent Brennan @ArizonaFBall pic.twitter.com/EPdwCT1Mlm— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) September 30, 2024
Herbstreit listed Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer as the No. 1 coach from Week 5. DeBoer’s Crimson Tide had an impressive performance against Georgia, leading by as many as 28 points in the game. The Tide went on to win 41-34 to remain perfect on the season.
At No. 2, Herbstreit listed UNLV’s Barry Odom. Odom led his squad to a massive victory over Fresno State, even as the team navigated a difficult situation with their starting QB leaving the team midweek.
At N0. 3, Herbstreit headed back to the SEC and gave the spot to Mark Stoops. Stoops’ Kentucky squad went to Oxford and got a huge upset victory over the top-10 Ole Miss Rebels.
Coach Prime got the No. 4 spot after his Colorado team went to UCF and easily beat the Knights. Indiana’s Curt Cignetti got the No. 5 spot as his Hoosiers improved to 5-0.
Finally, Joey McGuire of Texas Tech and Brent Brennan of Arizona got the final spots. McGuire got the nod after his team took down Cincinnati, meanwhile, Brennan’s squad upset the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City.
It will be interesting to see who makes Herbstreit’s list after a loaded Week 6 slate.
