Kirk Herbstreit always identifies the players, coaches, and teams that impressed him the most after each week of college football. Week 8 was no different, as the analyst recently revealed the coaches who impressed him the most.

Herbstreit’s list mentions 5 SEC coaches. Georgia’s Kirby Smart and defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann share the No. 1 spot after the Bulldogs shut down previously No. 1 Texas in Austin.

Schumann’s defense held the Longhorns to 259 total yards of offense and forced 4 fumbles. For the first time in 2024, the Longhorn offense seemingly had no answers for a defense, and the team suffered its first loss of the season.

At No. 2, Herbstreit went with Florida’s Billy Napier. Napier’s Gators dominated Kentucky, winning 48-20 and improving to 2-2 in SEC play. The Florida defense held Kentucky to 311 yards and forced 3 turnovers. On offense, this was the most points scored by the Gators in 2024 against an FBS opponent.

The final SEC mentions were South Carolina’s Shane Beamer and Clayton White at the No. 5 spot. White’s defense stifled Oklahoma, allowing the Sooners to score just 9 points and finish with under 300 yards of offense. The Gamecocks’ defense scored touchdowns on back-to-back drives, forced 4 turnovers and racked up a whopping 9 sacks.

Herbstreit listed a pair of defensive coordinators at No. 3 and No. 4. Indiana’s Bryant Haines is at No. 3 after his defense held Nebraska to 7 points and forced 5 turnovers. The Hoosiers added 2 sacks and 7 tackles for loss in the blowout win.

Colorado’s Robert Livingston got the No. 4 spot after his unit held Arizona to just 7 points. Star wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan was held to just 5 catches for 38 yards.

Finally, the last 2 spots on Herbstreit’s list went to Cincinnati’s Scott Satterfield and Michigan State’s Jonathan Smith. Cincinnati picked up a big win over an Arizona State team that entered the game with one loss. The Bearcats improved to 5-2 on the season.

Smith’s Spartans picked up an upset conference win over Iowa. The team improved to 2-2 in B1G play with that win.
