LSU’s impressive season continued over the weekend, as it notched a win over Auburn on Saturday to improve to 8-0. Then, the Tigers took over the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 poll, passing Alabama.

It was a showing that impressed ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who included LSU among his top six team performances of Week 9, which he shared on Twitter on Monday:

LSU had a great October, as it picked up quality wins over No. 6 Florida and No. 11 Auburn. Along with a road win over Texas earlier in the season, the Tigers are putting together one of the most impressive resumes of any team in the country.

But how LSU’s season unfolds over the final month of the regular season likely comes down to its next game on Nov. 9, when it travels to take on No. 2 Alabama.

There will be a lot at stake when the Tigers face the Crimson Tide, as the victor will likely win the SEC West and have an opportunity to play in the SEC championship game, where it should be favored over whichever team wins the SEC East.

However, even if LSU doesn’t beat Alabama and misses out on the conference championship game, its accomplishments so far may be enough to impress the College Football Playoff selection committee and earn the Tigers their first berth in the CFP.

This week, LSU is on a bye, so it will have extra time to prepare for the big Alabama game.
