Kirk Herbstreit didn’t have any SEC players, teams, or coaches among his list of top performers after Week 8’s college football games.
On Monday night, the ESPN college football analyst put out his latest list, and this time the SEC was represented. That was Auburn and Mississippi State, who came in at Nos. 3 and 6, respectively.
The Tigers needed a win over Ole Miss at Jordan-Hare Stadium to keep their SEC West championship hopes alive. They did just that with a 31-20 win over the Rebels on the Plains.
Bo Nix was 22-of-30 with 276 yards and 1 touchdown vs. 0 interceptions, but added 2 more touchdowns on the ground. Tank Bigsby had a strong game, taking 23 carries for 140 yards and a score, while Kobe Hudson had 6 catches for 79 yards. Zakoby McClain stole the show defensively, racking up 14 total tackles and 2.0 sacks.
The Bulldogs made the cut, too, following an upset of Kentucky in Starkville. Will Rogers was nearly perfect throwing the ball, while on defense, Mississippi State intercepted Will Levis, who was held to 150 yards passing, 3 times on the night. They next face Arkansas and will become bowl-eligible with a victory.
