Kirk Herbstreit highlighted a couple of SEC coaches who caught his attention for how their teams performed in Week 1.
Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea and Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann made the cut on Herbstreit’s list at No. 1 and No. 6, respectively.
Lea led Vanderbilt to arguably its biggest win of his tenure with the Commodores. Vandy upset Virginia Tech at home on Saturday in overtime thanks to a brilliant first-half performance and some clutch QB play by Diego Pavia.
Schumann spearheaded Georgia’s dominant 34-3 win over Clemson on Saturday. The Tigers were shutout completely in the first half and managed a success rate of just 38% for the full game.
Boston College’s Bill O’Brien, Notre Dame DC Al Golden, Penn State OC Andy Kotelnicki, USC DC D’Anton Lynn and North Carolina DC Geoff Collins were the other coaches named to Herbstreit’s top 7 for the week:
