Kirk Herbstreit on Alabama after FSU loss: ‘I don’t think they should be ranked’

Perhaps the most surprising outcome from this past weekend’s loaded Week 1 slate of college football action was the No. 8-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide getting knocked off by an unranked Florida State Seminoles squad.
The Tide went down to Doak Campbell Stadium looking to start their 2025 campaign out on a high note, but instead suffered one of the most embarrassing losses in recent program history, getting dominated 31-17.
Now, talk around the program has turned to just how far the Tide will end up falling in this week’s AP Top 25 poll. If it were up to ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, however, Bama wouldn’t even be in the rankings at all following their abysmal showing.
“I don’t think that they should be ranked after that performance,” Herbstreit said Monday night to Rece Davis, who also didn’t have the Tide in his Top 25.
It honestly seems a bit taboo at this point not to consider an AP Poll that doesn’t feature the Tide in some way, but this could very well end up being the new reality of college football.
It’s clear that the dominance everybody has come to expect from the Tide is no longer the standard down in Tuscaloosa, and that could end up with them being unranked for the first time since the 2007 season.
