Kirk Herbstreit offered a preview of the national championship game from the perspective of what to expect from the quarterbacks.

The ESPN analyst noted that the quarterback is a primary reason to win a championship, either in the NFL or in college. “You’ve got to have a guy,” he said, and added that TCU and Georgia made it to SoFi Stadium because of the play of their quarterback.

Herbstreit painted TCU’s Max Duggan from the perspective of a Georgia fan.

“The biggest concern if I were a Georgia fan is this: His legs. He’s carried the ball 15 times a game the last 2 times they have been out,” Herbstreit said. “Keep in mind, he can spin it, he can create. But you better account for him in the run game if you’re Georgia.”

As for Stetson Bennett, Herbstreit recalled how the Georgia fans and coaches didn’t think Bennett could deliver a championship until he did last year.

“Comes back this year, it’s a totally different deal, he’s now the face of their team,” Herbstreit said. “One thing you know about Georgia, they’re going to attack this TCU defense with the ability to run, and then Bennett off play-action.”

The game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday on ESPN from Inglewood, California.
