Moments after Desmond Howard picked the Aggies to win the SEC this season on College GameDay Saturday morning, fellow analyst Kirk Herbstreit provided his first ‘not-so-fast my friend’ with regards to Texas A&M’s showdown against Arizona State.
“I don’t know if there’s more at stake for both teams this weekend than any game in college football,” Herbstreit said. “I think Arizona State finds a way to win this game. Late in the game, Sun Devils find a way to get it done.”
Herbstreit’s son, Chase, chimed in as well.
“I’ve got Arizona State by 10 points,” little Herbie said.
Herbstreit didn’t pick third-ranked Alabama’s opener against Wisconsin since he’s calling the contest alongside Chris Fowler, but provided insight on the Badgers’ upset chances against the defending SEC champs.
“This Wisconsin defense is tough, it’s gritty and they want to stop the run,” Herbstreit said. “They’re built to stop the run. If they get this young Alabama quarterback into some obvious passing downs, that’s where they’re going to get really, really creative with their blitz packages, showing one thing and going to another.”
Herbstreit’s Week 1 SEC picks
- Auburn over Louisville
- Tennessee over Bowling Green (but doesn’t cover 21.5)
- Arizona State over Texas A&M
