Week 5 of the 2025 college football season is shaping up to be arguably the best of the entire regular season slate, with multiple high-stakes matchups set to kick off throughout the day.

Curiously enough, though, the 2 biggest games of the weekend in No. 5 Georgia vs. No. 17 Alabama and No. 6 Oregon vs. No. 4 Penn State are both scheduled to kick off during the same 7:30 p.m. ET time slot.

This means that fans of the sport are being forced to split their attention between the 2 biggest games of the season at the same time, a scheduling blunder that ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit recently called out to SI Media’s Jimmy Traina.

“It’s another example of why we need eventually a commissioner’s office, like the NFL has a commissioner’s office,” Herbstreit said. “I think the biggest thing, as a guy who eats and breathes college football, there are some weeks in college football where there might be one good game. And there are other weeks like this week, you could argue this is the greatest weekend of the entire year.”

Herbstreit raises a very valid point that many fans have been discussing for a while, and it’s an issue that, in his mind, would be remedied if the sport had one person at the top making all the key scheduling decisions.

“Wouldn’t it be great if we had a commissioner’s office to just kind of like let’s spread some of these games out,” Herbstreit asked. “I’m talking about the Alabama’s, the Ohio State’s, the Texas, like the big blue blood brands. It makes no sense to have all these games on one weekend.”

Other high-profile games this weekend include LSU vs. Ole Miss, Texas A&M vs. Auburn, USC vs. Illinois and Notre Dame vs. Arkansas.
