Kirk Herbstreit says Florida’s past decade ‘doesn’t make sense to my brain’

Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t understand the Florida Gators.

The college football analyst and the rest of the College GameDay crew discussed the problems with Florida lately. Herbstreit mentioned that the Dan Mullen-led Gators were much better off than they are now with Billy Napier at the helm.

“What was so bad about the Dan Mullen era?” Herbstreit asked. “They were winning a lot of games, I’m sure they’d love to have that era back.”

The best record the Gators have had under Napier came in 2022 when the team went 6-7. The team is currently sitting at 1-2 with a game against Mississippi State up next.

Herbstreit also criticized the Gators’ lack of high-quality athletes.

“They don’t have the athletic ability you expect to see in the SEC, especially at the line of scrimmage,” said Herbstreit. “They don’t have the defense, and I think they just lost their confidence overall.”

Finally, Herbstreit revealed his shock about the Gators’ average record of the last decade.

“This program, in the last 10 years, they average 7-5,” the analyst declared. “Florida Gators. 10 years. 7-5. It just doesn’t make sense to my brain.”

From 1991-2022, the Gators only missed a bowl game twice. Now, the Gators appear set to miss a bowl game in consecutive years for the 1st time since 1985-86.

Winning in Week 4 against Mississippi State would get the Gators to 2-2, but it’s hard to see where 4 more wins would come from. The Gators have matchups with No. 6 Tennessee, No. 2 Georgia, No. 1 Texas, and No. 5 Ole Miss yet to come.
