Kirk Herbstreit says NFL pales in comparison to victorious CFB scene

Kirk Herbstreit was on hand for the game of the day in Week 7, calling a top-1o thriller between Oregon and Washington in Seattle. That game went down to the wire and included everything from missed field goals, wreckless coaching decisions and electric quarterback play.

In the end, the Huskies held on thanks to some 4th-down decisions of Dan Lanning and a missed field goal at the buzzer. In the aftermath of the win, the Washington faithful flooded the field to create an electric scene of purple and gold jubilation.

As Herbstreit and his teammate Chris Fowler took in the scene, he delivered some interesting comments on the setting unfolding. Herbstreit referenced his work as an NFL broadcaster and noted scenes like the one inside Husky Stadium do not happen anywhere else besides college football.

“I look out at that scene — I mean look at this. You don’t get this — I do Thursday Night NFL football, and I love it, but you do not get this unless it’s a Saturday in college football,” said Herbstreit. “Look at this, man.

“And Michael Penix, good for you. Battling through so much adversity, to have this moment for your team, being that leader. Tremendous.”

At the end of the day, there is probably some truth to what Herbstreit had to say. Still, it’s fair to wonder if Amazon (who broadcasts TNF) appreciates that type of sentiment from one of its lead broadcasters.
