Kirk Herbstreit and College GameDay open the season during Week 0 Saturday with its first show of the year.
However, just like any season, Herbstreit revealed some of his predictions during the preseason with his Herbie Awards, and during the broadcast, the analyst revealed his SEC Championship predictions.
Herbstreit has the Alabama Crimson Tide repeating as SEC Champions, with the Georgia Bulldogs finishing second.
“I learned my lesson a long time ago,” Herbstreit said. “Have to see it to believe it kind of thing with Alabama. There’s some question marks, but same head coach right? Still got that same head coach down there in Nick Saban. You got a new offensive coordinator, you got a new offensive line coach, they made all these changes…now’s the time that they can be vulnerable. Nope, I still have Alabama over Georgia in the SEC Championship, which would put Bama back into the Playoff.”
The Crimson Tide and Bulldogs enter the 2021 season as the heavy SEC favorites in each division. One SEC West team to watch out for is the Texas A&M Aggies, as Jimbo Fisher is loading up talent on the roster to be able to contend with Nick Saban’s program. Florida will also contend for the SEC East division, too, but UGA is the favorite over the Gators.
It’s true — Alabama’s program lost some critical pieces in Steve Sarkisian, Mac Jones, DeVonta Smith and Najee Harris, among others; however, talent hasn’t been and isn’t a problem. Herbstreit obviously sees quarterback Bryce Young having a big year for the Tide.
Alabama kicks off the season against Miami in Atlanta on September 4, while Georgia faces Clemson in Charlotte.
