The Florida Gators are the No. 6 team in the College Football Playoff rankings, currently on the outside looking in.

However, the Gators still have 2 games left — this weekend against LSU and next weekend in Atlanta against No. 1 Alabama in the SEC title game.

On Saturday morning’s SportsCenter, analyst Kirk Herbstreit discussed how the Gators still hold their fate in their hands (via 247Sports):

“Florida is sitting there at No. 6, but Florida controls its own destiny,” Herbstreit said. “If they beat Alabama next week in Atlanta, they’re in. They don’t need any help at all. Florida is a team that, you know, they lost to A&M, but we’ve all been marveling at (Kyle) Trask, his receivers and the big-play abilities of this offense.

“You put his number on the same graphic next to Joe Burrow and its virtually the same, if not a little bit better. Remember last year we were talking about Joe Burrow and all of his playmakers and that offense maybe being the best in college football history? Well here comes Dan Mullen and Trask and (Kyle) Pitts and (Trevon) Grimes and so many playmakers. Florida doesn’t need any help at all. If you’re a Gators fan, just beat Alabama and you’ll make it into the Playoff.”

Will the Gators be able to pull off the upset in Atlanta next week? We’ll find out soon enough. First, though, they need to take care of business against LSU.
