Kliff Kingsbury was Mike Leach’s first quarterback at Texas Tech University when he took the job in 2000. Kingsbury broke the NCAA record for most completions across a single career in Leach’s offense and went on to be a head coach that instituted much of the schemes that Leach had taught him.
Kingsbury released a statement Tuesday morning on the passing of his former Texas Tech coach. Leach passed away at age 61 late Monday night as a result of complications from a heart condition that prompted a medical emergency.
Here is Kingsbury’s statement.

Kingsbury is the current head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and made stops at Texas A&M as offensive coordinator and Leach’s former school, Texas Tech, as head coach from 2013-2018.
