Kool-Aid McKinstry recalls as a kid ‘being on the right of the Iron Bowl’

Kool-Aid McKinstry knows how significant the Iron Bowl is.

He grew up in the state and saw how the game devided the state into 2 different sides. For McKinstry, he says that he was on the right side of the rivalry.

“It means a lot to me being a kid from the state because here in Alabama you’re either gonna be a Alabama fan or an Auburn fan, and I grew up an Alabama fan,” McKinstry said. “Just me being on the right side of the Iron Bowl, I just feel good about that.”

But someone on Alabama’s staff was on the wrong side of the Iron Bow, according to McKinstry. Kevin Steele, Alabama’s defensive coordinator, was Auburn’s defensive coordinator from 2016 to 2020.

“He just told us yesterday that he used to work there for 5 years straight, so we know we’re gonna be on him for that even more than we are T-Rob,” McKinstry said.

When discussing the most memorable Iron Bowl, his answer might bring up some bad memories for Alabama fans.

“I maybe shouldn’t say this, but the game I remember the most is kick-6,” McKinstry said. “I remember it the most because Chris Davis actually was my high school coach, just knowing that that was actually him and him being my high school coach, it was very exciting to me.”
