Kirk Herbstreit always reveals the players, coaches, and teams that impressed him the most after each week of college football action.

After Week 7, Herbstreit had plenty of coaches to choose from after another wild slate. The analyst picked 7 coaches that stood out the most over the weekend.

At No. 1, Herbstreit went with Oregon head coach Dan Lanning. Lanning led his Ducks to an impressive 1-point victory over Ohio State in Eugene. The Ducks moved up to No. 2 in the latest AP Poll with the top-5 victory.

At No. 2, Herbstreit went with LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker. Baker’s defense held Ole Miss to 26 points and racked up 6 sacks and 9 tackles for loss. The unit also forced 2 turnovers and helped the team capture a 29-26 win in overtime.

At Nos. 3 and 4, Herbstreit went with 2 head coaches in Kenny Dillingham and James Franklin. Dillingham’s Arizona State team got an upset win over Utah, improving to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Franklin’s Penn State squad, meanwhile, went across the country to pick up a conference win at USC.

A couple of assistants got the nod at No. 5 and No. 6 as Herbstreit went with Iowa offensive coordinator Tim Lester and Iowa State DC Jon Heacock. Lester’s offense racked up 328 total yards and scored 40 points. Heacock’s defense held West Virginia to 16 points, forced 2 turnovers, and collected 5 tackles for loss.

Finally, BYU’s Kalani Sitake got the final spot. Sitake’s Cougars secured a 41-19 win over Arizona to improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
