Kurt Warner’s son E.J. Warner, a true freshman quarterback at Temple, has been named the starting quarterback for the Owls for Saturday’s game against Rutgers, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

The younger Warner played for Brophy Prep in Arizona and was a 3-star recruit out of the class of 2022 when he signed with the Owls. According to his bio on the Temple website, E.J. Warner threw for 2,742 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior at Brophy Prep.

He received his first action against FCS Lafayette on Sept. 10 and was 14-of-19 for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns. He replaced former Georgia quarterback D’Wan Mathis, who was just 3-of-8 for 42 yards.

His father, a Hall of Fame quarterback, played in the NFL from 1998-2009, winning  Super Bowl XXXIV with the then-St. Louis Rams.

Kickoff between Temple and Rutgers is set for 2 p.m. ET.
