When former Texas A&M QB Kyle Allen announced his intentions to transfer to Houston on Tuesday, it brought an end to the drama of Kevin Sumlin’s top two quarterbacks deciding to leave the program following the conclusion of the 2015 season.
With Kyler Murray already headed for Oklahoma, and with the announcement from former Oklahoma QB Trevor Knight that he’s heading to College Station, it seems as though things have balanced themselves out a bit.
Still, it is interesting to know the “behind the scenes” thinking of some of these guys that decide to leave.
For Allen, he says the decision to go to Houston was the result of a risk analysis that he sat down and conducted with his parents on Sunday, according to a report from Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman.
“I just have a lot of trust in Coach [Tom] Herman. He had recruited me in high school [when Herman was at Ohio State]. I had gotten to know him extremely well. I know he can really help me grow as a man and get to the NFL.”
Allen said he considered Colorado, Colorado State and Syracuse as his other options in the analysis. He previously had interest in Oklahoma, but Murray’s transfer there took that out of the equation.
Feldman noted that Houston’s Peach Bowl win against Florida State last week was just “icing on the cake” for Allen’s decision.
