Tennessee will be getting a boost to their defensive line for 2015. Four-star defensive end Kyle Phillips picked the Volunteers on Saturday, announcing his decision at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
“I just felt at home at Tennessee,” Phillips said on the game’s broadcast. “I’ve just loved it since I’ve been there. It’s perfect for my family and me.”
Phillips picked Tennessee over several other schools, including LSU and Ole Miss. Tennessee was long considered the favorite to land Phillips, a Nashville native. The No. 8 defensive end in the country and No. 2 player in Tennessee, per 247sports’ industry composite rankings, is listed at 6-foot-3.5, 250 pounds.
Earlier this week, LSU secured a commitment from three-star cornerback Ugo Amadi, who said that Phillips would be joining him in his college decision.
Phillips adds to a recruiting class ranked No. 5 in the nation. He joins fellow U.S. Army All-American Kahlil McKenzie as a part of the incoming class. They add to a defensive line already loaded with talent, with Derek Barnett and Curt Maggitt both putting up impressive 2014 campaigns.
